Running (While traveling)
I love to run and it is an essential part of any trip I take. Running while traveling allows me to see new places that I might not ordinarily get to see. I can run to check out a far-reaching city block, coastal country road or a remote trail. I get to see more of a place by running than if I were just walking around. It offers me a unique freedom to get to know a place.
As I have mentioned, Miguel and I make a point of getting runs in wherever we travel. We do this both because we get enjoyment through the exercise, but also because it lets us see more, faster.
Useful running resources
Prior to arriving at a spot I visit, I look up potential running routes and hikes in the area. I sometimes even look up local races if I’m feeling energetic. But mostly I want to chill runs around the places that I am staying. Some of the best runs I have taken are just by chance following random roads from my Airbnb to happen upon an enchanting coastal sunset view. Those are the runs I look forward to, and also least expect.
If I am visiting a park or natural space, I look up trails on their site or just by googling the area ahead of time. I also look on All Trails and on my Strava or Footpath apps to plan out nearby routes out.
